God has not only given us His Son and His Holy Spirit, but He has also given to us angels to watch over us. These Angels are ministering spirits that are sent by God to help us in everyday life. There were angels in the book of Daniel, both to help Daniel in His time of distress (in the lion’s den),
Daniel 6:22 “My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.”
and also to deliver messages to Daniel.
Daniel 10:11 “He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.”
The messenger Angel Gabriel also delivered the message of our Lord’s birth to Mary.
Luke 1:30 “Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.”
Although we have the Holy Spirit of God the Father within us and do not need angels to necessarily deliver messages to us anymore (God’s direct communication to us is through His Spirit given on Pentecost), sometimes an angel may bring a confirming word or offer help in some other way.
The Bible says in Hebrews that angels are sent by God as ministering spirits amongst us, to minister to those who are receiving salvation.
Hebrews 1:14 “Are they [Angels] not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?”
In fact, it even says that we may have even entertained angels without our own knowing, just as Lot did back in the book of Genesis.
Hebrews 13:2 “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
But let us not forget that the whole purpose of the Angels ministry, and our ministry for that matter, is to bring glory to the Son of God.
Revelation 19:10 “Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
So let us not forget Jesus, who for the sake of suffering was crowned with honor and glory, and given a name that is high above every name,
Hebrews 1:4 “Having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.”
It’s interesting to note, one day we shall be like our heavenly friends (Mark 12:25). And truly we too shall soar on the wings of eagles, we shall walk and not grow weary, we shall run and not faint in our great heavenly palace!
