Jesus, Our Great Addiction Breaker

The great thing about our Lord Jesus is that He not only delivered us from our sins, but He is also delivering us from our sins. Day by day as we walk with Him and know of His love we are transformed to become more and more like Him.

If we have had any addictions, they are stopped. If there is any bondage in our lives, we are set free. It's not by our own doing, but by His power and might!

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised"

Something that has a hold over you is what is known as an addiction. We all have an addiction of some sort. God sees us all the same and He offers us His forgiveness. When the Son of God comes into your life, when you are filled by that blessed Holy Spirit, truly you will be set free!

Luke 19:10 "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

Mark 2:17 "And hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

To further emphasize this great work of our Lord, let's look at the account of the man in the tombs:

Mark 5:1-15
"They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes. When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him, and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain; because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.

Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.

Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; and shouting with a loud voice, he said, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!"

For He had been saying to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!"

And He was asking him, "What is your name?" And he said to Him, "My name is Legion; for we are many." And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.

Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain. The demons implored Him, saying, "Send us into the swine so that we may enter them."
Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.

Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened. They came to Jesus and observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the "legion"; and they became frightened.

The reason I have chosen this example is because it offers hope for anyone. Here is a man who could no longer function in society, an outcast, one who was tormented day and night and nobody could help (good thing they didn't have psychiatrists back then because they probably would have locked him up in a penitentiary someplace). There was no one to help this poor old man, no doctors, no towns people, no one that is except for Jesus!

When this man met Jesus he was instantly delivered, and what a deliverance that was! And it is the same for you and me! We may not have as extreme a case as this one, but it shows that there is hope for all in Jesus. Nothing is too great for Him. No sin too unforgivable. No power of darkness to great. No addiction to strong! Truly He will make you a new man as you humble yourself and come to Him, cause truly we have nowhere else to go.
