The Messianic Movement

There has been a recent movement that has been going on the United States, and I like to refer to it as the Messianic Movement. The Messianic Movement is an attempt to bring Christianity back to what it originally was in the first century Church. This includes bringing as much of the Jewish roots of Christianity back as possible. A lot of this seems like an attempt (with good intentions) of reaching out to the Jewish brethren, with the message that true Christianity is not opposed to Jewish roots, but rather is embedded and established on and with Jewish roots.

Most of the Messianic Movement seeks to return back to the original names that were found in the Bible. This is before the King James Bible and most of the more modern names we are used to.

Is this truly a movement of God much like the Pentecostal movement in the early 1900's? It's hard to say now, but time will tell. The important thing to remember, is that Jesus Christ should be glorified in all that is done and all that is preached. No matter what He is referred to as (Yeshua or Jesus), He is still the same, and His work on the cross does not change. We must remember that. That is what truly matters.

There also seems to be a movement in this Messianic congregation to reestablish the Law. Now, there is nothing wrong with the Law, it is holy and good (Romans 7:16). But we are not! We are born into sin and we aren't able to follow the law as it is (Romans 8:3). This is why God has given us the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit to walk by. When we do this, the law is established. A new law in itself. The law of love and the Spirit, with the Law written on our hearts by the very Spirit of God.

God's love never changes and neither does the finished work of our Saviour for our sins on the cross. A rose by any other name is still a rose, and our Lord is still our Lord. Loving and gracious as He always is!

God Bless!
