Galations 3:24 "Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith."
Christ is the end of the law for all who believe (Romans 10:4). We are all justified by faith apart from the law (Romans 3:28). The Bible says that the purpose of the Law or Commandments (there were the Ten Commandments plus more that were given later) were given to lead us to Christ! They were never supposed to be guidelines to follow (there is a greater law we will get to later), but rather they were supposed to lead us to salvation through faith in Christ, and Him alone!
Romans 7:9 "For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died."
If anyone could boast about following the law and commandments perfectly, it was the Apostle Paul, and he did.
Phillipians 3:6 "Touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless."
But the Apostle Paul was humbled when he met the Lord Jesus Christ! He went from calling himself a Pharisee of the Pharisees (Philippians 3:5), to the chiefest of sinners (1 Tim. 1:15)!
What caused this dramatic change in the Pharisee known as Saul (who later became Paul after his conversion)? He met Jesus Christ! He saw Jesus Christ! He was literally blinded for three days after seeing our Lord, and after that he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and began to walk with God for the remainder of his life. This is when Paul came to find out that all the righteousness that he had in himself was not true righteousness! Our righteousness is in our faith in Christ and nothing else (Gal. 3:24)! Jesus Christ is our righteousness, and nothing else! No works of the law can ever justify us. The law can only condemn us (Rom. 8:3, 3:19-20)!
Romans 3:20 "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."
The Law or Commandments were given to convict us of sin, never to justify us! It was to point us to the only One who could save us, the righteousness of God, the Lord Jesus Christ! When we walk with God we shall fulfill all the deeds and requirements of the Law and Ten Commandments (as well as any others) naturally! For God will change our hearts through the power of His Holy Spirit that we may walk more like Him and be more like Him! God needs no law because He is perfect, and as we become more like Him, we shall walk perfectly too, apart from any law, but naturally too! God Bless.
