Smith Wigglesworth used to say, "If I could just get you to believe". He was a man who believed in the power of faith and trusting in His Lord. He was a man who relied heavily on the Holy Spirit within him and used that wonder working power to heal many and win many to Christ. His ministry extended worldwide until the time of his death. He truly was an "Apostle of Faith" and one who believed in Jesus' promise, that "greater works shall you do, for I go unto the Father" (John 14:12). He truly was a great man of God, and a great example of God using an ordinary man to do extraordinary things. Smith Wigglesworth always sought to give glory to God and to get people to look not to himself, but to our blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
When I read Acts 11:24 I think of Smith Wigglesworth, a very great man of God.
Acts 11:24 "For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord."
Smith Wigglesworth was known by many as the "Apostle of Faith", and rightly so. His incredible faith saw thousands healed and countless numbers coming to the Lord. He was a man full of the Holy Spirit and he believed greatly in the Spirit within him and the power of God in him.
In 1907, Smith Wigglesworth was baptized in the Holy Spirit and discovered a new found love and desire for the Lord. Even as a boy he had won many to Christ and he lived his life for many years witnessing to anyone that he could.
In 1882 he married Polly Featherstone, a woman devoted to God with a gift for preaching. The two of them opened up a mission together to help the poor and needy from their communities, and Polly would preach at the mission.
Although sometimes questioned for his unique ways of ministering, Smith Wigglesworth always got the job done and many were miraculously healed by this powerful man of the Lord. People noted that he was kind and very gentle in person and he lived a hard life as a boy, working twelve hours a day from the age of seven to support his family and later became a plumber in life. Although he had no formal education, his wife helped him to learn to read, and his sermons, although sometimes a bit disjointed, always had great power and insight into the Word of God which he always preached and taught.
