The Bible says that God has not given to us a spirit of fear (2 Tim. 1:7). Fear never comes from God. There is a certain kind of fear of the Lord, but this is a different kind of fear. It's a respect. A respect for authority. This is the fear of the Lord the Bible speaks of. But there is another kind of fear we are going to discuss. This is the kind of fear that makes one afraid, and this kind of fear is not of or from God.
You will find in life that one of the tactics that the evil one, the devil uses, is fear. You see, God is faith. The devil is fear. There are contrasts here. Opposites.
Jesus came to deliver us from the Devil and from all of His bondage, including fear. This is why 2 Timothy 1:7 specifically says that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but rather of love, of power, and of a sound mind. See the contrast here between the Kingdom of Love and Light and the Kingdom of Darkness?
The Devil seeks to instill fear into God's Children. This gives the Devil power over someone. That which you fear has the ability to control you. But God has not given us the Spirit of fear, He's given us the Holy Spirit which is able to deliver us from all our sins and fears! This is the power of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life. We need fear no more! Perfect love, the perfect love of God in Jesus Christ, the perfect love which is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5) casts out all fear! (1 John 4:18)
1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."
The Devil would love to do nothing except torment to the Children of God. Listen to what Job said after the Adversary had wrecked his life.
Job 3:25 "For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me."
This fear gave Satan access into Job's life. But when we are perfected in the love of God and filled with the Holy Spirit, the spirit of fear, which is not of God but of the Adversary, has no more place in our lives! We are delivered and set free. Glory to God for what He has done, and for what He has wrought in our lives! God Bless.
