When questioned by the Pharisees as to what the greatest commandment given by God was, Jesus correctly responded,
Mark 12:28-30 “One of the Scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He (Jesus) had answered them well, asked Him, ‘What commandment is the greatest of all?’ Jesus responded, ‘The greatest is this, ‘Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is One, and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.“
Jesus recognized our love for God as the greatest thing, above all. The love of a Son for a Father.
And the next greatest stems off of this, our love for God.
verse 31 “The second is this, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
1 John 4:9 “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.”
As we love God we shall love our neighbor too, and His love shall be perfected in us! God bless.
