One aspect that is mentioned many times in the Bible and which serves as a very good tool for us as Christians, is none other than the weapon of prayer and fasting.
Even Jesus mentioned prayer and fasting, along with engaging in it Himself.
Mark 9:29 ‘And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer and fasting.”‘
We see many saints of God, including the disciples engaging in prayer and fasting, and there must have been a purpose. Remember also there can be a wrong way, or reason to pray and fast, such as for religious purposes or the approval of men. None of these get you any closer to God, which should be the purpose and motive behind the act.
Matthew 6:16 “Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.”
Here is another verse on the subject from Isaiah,
Isaiah 58:5 “Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to humble himself? Is it for bowing one’s head like a reed And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the LORD?”
So however you choose to pray and fast, let it be done heart fully unto the Lord as all things, and He shall give you peace and that which you desire. God bless.
